Description

What Survives the Break is built from fractured skins, lifted plates, and exposed seams. The surface is visibly stressed—cracked layers, chipped edges, and ruptured fields remain unresolved, allowing the history of pressure to stay present. Nothing is disguised or softened. The work reads as accumulated strain rather than composition refined for comfort.

Gold lines move through the piece like binding rather than embellishment. They trace damage, reinforce weak points, and hold fractured forms in place. The palette is weathered and compressed—burnt ochres, bruised blues, ash greys, and muted whites pressed into one another without hierarchy. Colour appears as residue rather than statement.

Vertical forms rise through resistance, suggesting growth that is neither delicate nor triumphant. These shapes feel forced upward, shaped by constraint, carrying the marks of impact as they persist. The surface holds tension between fragility and endurance, where survival is not clean or heroic but simply sustained.

This is work that does not resolve its fractures. It accepts breakage as part of structure, leaving the process exposed and the surface uncompromised. What remains is not restoration, but continuation.
