Description

The surface is dense and compressed, built from darkened fields that feel pressed together rather than layered gently. Blacks and deep charcoals dominate, carrying scuffs, abrasions, and dull fractures beneath the skin. These areas absorb light instead of reflecting it, giving the work a weighted, inward pull. Reds emerge in restrained but forceful passages, reading as exposed pressure rather than decorative colour.

Forms overlap and push against one another, creating a sense of mass held in place. The composition offers little open space; instead, shapes are stacked, driven together, and contained. Curved linear elements trace across the surface like bindings, tethering the forms and preventing release. They guide the eye without relieving the tension.

The process remains visible throughout. Surfaces are worn, uneven, and unresolved, with no attempt to soften edges or disguise revision. The geometry feels imposed under strain, holding structure against resistance rather than achieving balance.

This is a work concerned with endurance and suspension. It holds a moment of waiting under pressure — not passive, but contained — where force is present, restrained, and unresolved within the darkened field.
