Description

This work presents a human profile reconstructed through accumulation and erosion rather than depiction. The face emerges from layered matter, its contours scraped, built, and partially worn away, leaving the process exposed rather than refined. Recognition is immediate, but familiarity is denied; the form feels recovered rather than composed.

The eye is formed from concentric layers, pressed inward rather than projected outward. It reads less as a point of vision and more as a core or cavity, as if the surface has been cut back repeatedly to reveal what remains beneath. Surrounding planes of blue and chalked white are uneven and distressed, their edges roughened and irregular, carrying the residue of revision.

Metallic traces appear sparingly along seams and breaks, not as ornament but as abrasion — dragged across the surface and left where resistance occurred. Facial features are implied through contour and pressure rather than line, their asymmetry preventing the work from settling into portraiture. Expression is withheld, replaced by distance.

Process remains dominant throughout. Scratches, layered skins, and exposed edges register time and interference without correction. The figure holds its presence through persistence rather than likeness, occupying a space between recognition and estrangement. What remains is not a face seeking engagement, but a form that endures after repeated disturbance.
