Shear Crossing – Fine Art Print

Description

The surface of Shear Crossing is aggressively worked and left unresolved. Broad areas are scraped back, re-layered, and fractured, with paint dragged laterally and allowed to tear across underlying fields. Abrasion is visible throughout: scored edges, broken deposits, and uneven skin where material has been pushed, lifted, and reasserted rather than refined.

A sweeping band of red and blue cuts through the composition, acting as a structural splice rather than a focal flourish. It moves laterally across the work, binding separated fields while simultaneously stressing their boundaries. The surface around it appears compressed and disrupted, as though forced to accommodate the passage. Vertical drips and scuffed passages record gravity and resistance rather than expressive gesture.

Thin linear divisions and grid-like constraints are present but ineffective at restoring order. They read as imposed after the fact — attempts to stabilise a surface already in motion. Light and dark areas collide rather than blend, creating zones of pressure where scraped whites, dense blacks, and muted neutrals refuse to settle into harmony.

Nothing is softened or concealed. Each mark remains as evidence of revision, correction, and insistence. The work holds together through tension and opposition, not balance — a structure crossed by force rather than calmly assembled.
