Pressure Finds No Centre – Fine Art Print

Description

This work is driven by compression and impact rather than alignment. Thick, fractured blocks of colour are pushed into place, their surfaces cracked, scraped, and torn, carrying the marks of force rather than refinement. Reds and oranges dominate through mass and density, not brightness, their skins stressed and uneven, as though colour itself has been worked past comfort. Cooler blues and teals act as containment rather than relief, absorbing pressure without resolving it.

The structure suggests a grid that never fully stabilises. Rectangular sections collide and override one another, their boundaries repeatedly interrupted by scarring, dragged lines, and ruptured edges. Thin black marks cut across the surface with no authority of their own, behaving more like reactive traces than guiding geometry. They read as attempts to hold or repair rather than design.

Process remains fully exposed. Palette-knife ridges, cracked passages, and scraped returns leave no illusion of finish. Areas thicken abruptly, then thin to near absence, creating an unstable rhythm where containment is constantly tested. The surface feels burdened by accumulation rather than composed through planning.

There is no central resolution here. Weight shifts across the field without settling, and balance is denied in favour of sustained tension. The work holds itself together through friction and resistance, occupying a state where structure persists only because collapse has not yet complete
