Held Against the Grid – Fine Art Print

Description

This work is built from a rigid underlying structure that never fully holds. A scored grid runs across the surface, its lines etched, dragged, and interrupted by layers of scraped paint and exposed underlayers. The white ground is battered and uneven, carrying the marks of repeated adjustment rather than resolution.

A central field of muted blue anchors the composition, but it is not protected. It is crossed by horizontal and vertical breaks, pressed in by surrounding tension rather than elevated. Red ruptures cut through the grid at irregular intervals, bleeding downward and refusing containment. These marks feel consequential rather than expressive — traces of pressure released rather than gestures performed.

Gold elements appear fractured and dispersed, embedded into the surface as if uncovered rather than applied. They read as remnants caught in the structure, not embellishment. Throughout the piece, order and disruption coexist uneasily: the grid persists, but it is constantly challenged by gravity, erosion, and force.

This is a composition concerned with endurance. It holds itself together not through harmony, but through resistance — a structure maintained despite repeated interruption.
