Description

This work presents a surface that is scored, layered, and deliberately unsettled. Broad scraped arcs cut across a fractured field of blocks and bands, leaving behind evidence of pressure, revision, and abrasion. Cream and mineral tones are dragged and broken open, exposing deeper strata of blue, violet, rust, and muted red beneath.

The composition holds a tense balance between structure and disruption. Geometric elements suggest an underlying framework, but they are repeatedly interrupted by sweeping gestures that refuse to fully resolve. Lines bend, overlap, and fracture, creating a sense of movement that feels both controlled and resistant. Nothing sits comfortably; every section appears to be negotiating space.

The surface remains intentionally raw. Marks are left visible, edges are imperfect, and transitions are abrupt rather than smoothed. This openness reveals the process as much as the outcome — decisions are layered, reworked, and allowed to remain present rather than concealed.

There is a starkness to the piece despite its colour. Large areas feel exposed and weathered, as though shaped by forces beyond the frame. The work does not aim for harmony; instead, it sustains tension, inviting prolonged looking rather than immediate comfort.

This is a piece that asserts itself through weight and presence. It does not soften its language or offer easy resolution, standing instead as a record of structure under stress and form tested by movement.
