Description

This work places vivid red floral forms against a fractured, weathered field that refuses to act as a passive backdrop. The blooms are bold and assertive, built from thick, uneven passages of colour that show visible drag, breaks, and compressed edges. Their surfaces feel worked rather than painted, carrying weight and pressure rather than softness.

Behind them, layered teal, grey, and muted blue fields are scraped back and disrupted, revealing an unsettled ground marked by cuts, drips, and partial erasures. The stems appear thin and strained, stretched upward through resistance rather than supported by it. Linear interruptions and splintered marks cut across the space, preventing the composition from settling into ornament or calm.

Process remains fully exposed. Paint is built, fractured, and reasserted without concealment. The contrast between the assertive blooms and the bruised ground creates tension rather than harmony. This is not a floral image seeking comfort or decoration, but one that records persistence — colour held upright against friction and instability.
