Forged Aperture – Fine Art Print

Description

The surface of this work feels built rather than painted. Thick bands of grey are layered in concentric formation, scraped and pressed into place. Edges remain uneven and distressed. Cracks travel across the rings like stress fractures in metal or cured concrete. Nothing is softened; the material presence is direct and unpolished.

At the centre, a deep circular void absorbs the eye. It is not shaded for illusion; it reads as a deliberate absence — a controlled opening cut into the structure. Surrounding it, a fractured arc of red emerges beneath the grey layers, as if heat or pressure has exposed an inner core. The red is not applied gently; it appears split, chipped, and partially sealed over again.

Gold fragments track along fault lines, catching at the edges of breaks and seams. They behave like repaired fractures or structural joins rather than decorative highlights. The surface records impact and revision. Paint is built up, broken, and reasserted.

There is a sense of containment here. The circular form holds tension within its boundary. The void does not collapse; it stabilises the composition. The outer layers feel industrial, almost engineered, while the inner core suggests heat, rupture, and controlled force.

“Forged Aperture” documents pressure made visible. It does not ask to be admired for smoothness. It stands as a constructed object — layered, fractured, and held together by intention.
