Residual Gaze – Fine Art Print

Description

This work presents a fragmented face built from scraped layers, fractured planes, and exposed joins that remain deliberately visible. The surface is scored and distressed, with lifted sections and torn edges that suggest removal as much as construction. Nothing is concealed. The process is left open — layers applied, stripped back, and reassembled.

A strong diagonal band cuts through the face, dividing the composition with structural authority rather than ornament. On one side, darker planes frame the eye in deep black and muted charcoal, sharpening its presence. On the other, textured neutrals and eroded surfaces reveal chipped edges and flaking layers, as though the material has weathered under pressure.

The eye anchors the entire composition. It is precise, alert, and unwavering. Fine gold flecks beneath it read as residue rather than decoration — traces left behind after fracture. The surrounding textures feel scraped and rebuilt, with cracks and fissures acknowledging strain rather than hiding it.

The lips are restrained, metallic and subdued, avoiding overt sentiment. The face does not soften the rupture; it absorbs it. The relief work gives the piece dimensional authority, reading as a constructed wall panel rather than a flat image. Every lifted edge and distressed surface carries the record of revision.

This is not a portrait seeking approval. It stands intact because of its fractures, not despite them. The gaze remains — steady, residual, unfiltered.
