Description

A layered, distressed surface forms the foundation of this work, scored and fractured with visible stress lines that cut across the composition. Sections appear scraped back, revealing underlayers of darker material, while gold seams thread through ruptures like structural reinforcement rather than ornament. The surface feels weathered and worked — not decorative, but shaped through pressure and revision.

A dominant red arc curves through the centre, thick and deliberate, as though bent into place. Its form is not soft; it reads as engineered and held under tension. Beneath and around it, blackened textures and exposed strata create a sense of weight and resistance. The spiral movement pulls inward, yet the structure resists collapse, creating a controlled friction between motion and containment.

The edges of the arcs appear cut and layered, with transitions left visible rather than concealed. Nothing is smoothed. The history of making remains exposed — scraped sections, fractured paint, and scored lines that record adjustment and restraint. Gold fissures move across the surface like fault lines after strain, acknowledging rupture without disguising it.

The composition sits between force and discipline. The turning motion suggests energy, yet the structure refuses to give way. It is held, braced, reinforced. The tension is audible in the silence of the darker planes and in the scrape implied by each exposed edge.

This is not a gentle spiral. It is a structure under rotation — contained, deliberate, and unapologetic in its weight.
