Description

The work is built directly onto a wooden surface, allowing the grain, knots, and natural imperfections of the material to remain exposed and active. These elements are not concealed or corrected; they are integrated into the composition as structural facts. Scraped layers, cut edges, and vertical scoring reveal a process that values pressure and revision over polish.

A dense assembly of architectural forms rises across the surface, constructed from stacked, fractured verticals that feel compressed and weight-bearing. The structures appear assembled rather than illustrated, with uneven edges and interrupted lines reinforcing a sense of strain and endurance. Diagonal bands cut across the composition like imposed infrastructure, crossing the skyline with deliberate force and refusing to settle into symmetry.

The natural knot in the wood functions as a central anchor, holding visual tension without becoming decorative. It reads as a point of accumulation — pressure, time, and material history condensed into a single presence. Dark drips and downward pulls reinforce gravity and erosion, grounding the composition and preventing any sense of elevation or idealisation.

The surface remains unapologetically raw. Every mark records a decision, every interruption is left visible. The work does not soften its edges or resolve into harmony; it holds its structure through restraint, material honesty, and controlled imbalance.
