Between Planes and Pressure – Fine Art Print

Description

This work is built from layered planes, scraped surfaces, and deliberate interruptions that leave the process exposed rather than refined away. Cool greys and slate tones form a restrained ground, repeatedly fractured by scorched oranges, deep reds, and a vertical field of compressed blue that holds the composition upright.

The structure is architectural in nature. Rectangular elements act as stabilising masses, while fine gold lines cut across them like stress fractures, suggesting strain rather than ornament. These lines are uneven, broken, and imperfect, reinforcing the sense that the surface has been worked under pressure rather than designed for harmony.

A curved metallic form sweeps through the lower register, introducing motion without dissolving the structure. It interrupts the rigidity of the verticals, then settles back into the composition, maintaining balance rather than spectacle. Nothing dominates; each element negotiates space.

The surface remains raw and unsettled. Scratches, abrasions, and layered paint are left visible, recording decision, revision, and restraint. The work avoids softness or sentiment, favouring tension, weight, and clarity of intent.

This is a piece that holds itself with quiet authority. It does not invite interpretation so much as sustained attention, functioning as a record of structure held under pressure rather than resolved into ease.
