Description

This work presents a surface that is layered, scraped, and gently unsettled, with visible strokes and broken planes that record the process of making rather than conceal it. Broad fields of softened blue and grey are fractured by warmer bands of ochre, coral, and pale rose, creating a horizon that feels formed through accumulation rather than design.

The composition balances structure and atmosphere with restraint. Slender, dark arboreal forms rise from the lower register, anchoring the space without dominating it. They function less as literal trees and more as vertical counterpoints — stabilising the movement of colour and guiding the eye through the shifting surface.

Marks are left exposed. Transitions between tones are imperfect and uneven, allowing edges to breathe and overlap. The paint carries weight, yet never becomes aggressive; instead, it holds a quiet tension between solidity and openness. The work resists spectacle, favouring presence over impact.

There is a sense of suspension throughout the piece — a moment held rather than resolved. The surface feels weathered but intact, shaped by gradual pressure rather than force. Nothing here asks for attention; it rewards it slowly.

This is a contemplative work that remains grounded in material honesty. It does not seek drama or declaration, choosing instead to sustain a steady emotional register where structure and feeling remain in balance.
