Description

This figure appears compressed into a fractured structure, its surface built from scraped layers, compacted seams, and scuffed planes that feel accumulated rather than composed. The body is not placed against the grid; it seems drawn out of it, shaped by pressure and resistance rather than movement. Marks overlap and collide, leaving the history of revision exposed across the surface.

Ochre, muted gold, and cold blue fields are dulled and worn, their textures battered and uneven. Areas of thickened material press forward while thinner passages retreat, creating an irregular rhythm of weight and fragility. Black linear contours trace the figure tentatively, tightening and loosening as they navigate interruptions in the surface. The lines feel pulled under strain, resisting clarity rather than asserting it.

The grid itself behaves less like order and more like accumulation. Blocks stack unevenly, seams misalign, and scraped joins interrupt continuity. Structure here does not support the figure; it contains it. Movement is restricted, forward motion replaced by endurance. The figure holds its position through compression, not balance.

Process remains visible throughout. Scratches, abrasions, and compacted textures register decisions without refinement or concealment. The work settles into a state of held tension, where form persists through pressure and mass rather than resolution or release.
