Description

The surface is restrained and deliberately worked, built from layered blues, greys, and muted creams that show subtle scraping, abrasion, and patchwork wear. Pigment is applied and held back in equal measure, leaving areas that feel pressed rather than expressive. Gold traces appear sparingly, irregular and worn, more like residue than ornament.

The face is constructed through segmented planes and hard-edged seams. It does not emerge naturally; it is assembled. Forms feel cut, bent, and rejoined, creating a structure that contains rather than reveals. The circular element over the eye dominates the composition, acting as a point of compression — an imposed focus that obstructs as much as it defines.

The geometry exerts control, but not comfort. Lines bind the surface into place, holding tension just beneath visibility. The mouth, slightly parted, introduces a note of vulnerability that contrasts with the otherwise controlled structure, suggesting something internal pressing against restraint.

Nothing here is softened or resolved. The process remains visible, the surfaces unpolished, and the balance deliberately uneasy. This is a work concerned with containment, pressure, and the limits of perception — where seeing is constrained rather than free.
