Description

The surface of this work is marked and worked through, carrying visible layers of scraped pigment, scored arcs, and fractured planes. Colour is built up and worn back, leaving evidence of pressure, revision, and restraint. Ochres, oxidised blues, raw creams, and deep umbers sit in uneven fields, their edges imperfect and unsettled.

Geometric structure is imposed but never fully obedient. Circles overlap and strain against a rigid grid, while linear divisions act as braces rather than boundaries. The arcs feel held in place rather than resolved, suggesting force applied to something that resists being fixed. Lines intersect, interrupt, and partially collapse the forms they attempt to control.

The process remains exposed throughout. Nothing is smoothed or concealed; scratches, scuffs, and uneven surfaces are left intact. The work carries a sense of contained pressure — a balance between intention and disruption — where order is present, but always under strain.

This is a piece that relies on physical presence. Its geometry is not decorative but structural, bearing the marks of effort and decision, and holding tension as a defining feature rather than something to be resolved.
