Unshielded Interval – Fine Art Print

Description

This work is built on a visibly worked surface, marked by scraping, abrasion, and layered revision. Areas of paint are fractured and partially removed, exposing underlying textures and interruptions that remain deliberately unresolved. The surface carries evidence of process throughout, with no attempt to conceal corrections or smooth transitions.

Two human figures occupy the composition, positioned within a loose but persistent structural framework. The grid is present, but it no longer asserts control; instead, it feels tentative, stretched across the surface as if attempting to contain forms that resist full alignment. Copper lines drift across faces and fields, behaving less as boundaries and more as traces — remnants of structure rather than enforcement.

The figures are unevenly resolved. One appears eroded and weathered, the other more intact, yet neither is fixed or stable. Their presence is quiet and exposed, defined as much by surrounding space as by form. There is no direct exchange between them, only proximity and tension held in suspension.

The palette is restrained and grounded. Chalky whites, muted greys, and pale blues are set against warmer ochre and gold passages, creating contrast without softness. Colour functions structurally rather than emotionally, reinforcing division and balance while allowing vulnerability to remain visible.

Process remains fully exposed. Cracks, scuffs, and interruptions read as records of decision and revision, not embellishment. The work occupies a moment of openness — a pause where containment loosens and presence is left unshielded, without narrative or resolution.

This is not a work that seeks harmony or reassurance. It holds attention through restraint, allowing tension to exist without being forced into conclusion.
