Calibrated Presence – Fine Art Print

Description

This work presents a heavily worked surface marked by fractures, embedded lines, and visible abrasion. Layers are scored and cracked, with areas of scraped paint and exposed texture revealing the accumulation of process beneath the image. The surface carries its own history, resisting any attempt at smooth resolution.

A human face emerges within a rigid grid, partially obscured and intersected by copper lines that cut horizontally and vertically across the composition. These linear elements function as constraints rather than decoration, dividing the surface into measured sections while disrupting continuity. The geometry imposes order, yet the fractured textures and uneven layers refuse to settle into calm alignment.

Colour is restrained but deliberate. Muted blues, greys, ochres, and off-whites are punctuated by sharper notes of red and yellow, each held within structured boundaries. The palette feels controlled, but never softened, allowing tension to remain present across the surface. The face itself is not presented as expressive or emotive; it appears contained, calibrated, and held in place by the surrounding framework.

The process remains fully exposed. Cracks, marks, and interruptions are left intact, allowing the viewer to trace decisions and revisions without disguise. Nothing is smoothed over, and nothing is concealed. The work balances structure against fracture, presence against restraint, creating a surface that feels measured yet unsettled.

This is not an image of intimacy or narrative. It is a study of presence under regulation — human form subjected to systems of division, control, and alignment, yet never fully absorbed by them.
